Methodology

How each calculation works, and how accurate it is

We aim to be transparent about how every number on Zolunas is produced, and how confident you should be in it. Factual, physics-based tools (time, sun, moon) use standard algorithms and are highly accurate. Interpretive tools (astrology, tarot, numerology, personality tests) are for reflection and entertainment, not scientific measurement.

Time zones & world clock

Every conversion uses the browser's built-in IANA Time Zone Database via the Intl API. This includes historical and future daylight-saving transitions, so results stay correct even as countries change their DST rules. We do not maintain a separate offset table that could drift out of date.

Sunrise, sunset & day length

Sun times use the NOAA Solar Calculator algorithm (solar position from latitude, longitude, and date). This is accurate to within about ±1 minute for most locations and matches official government sources.

Moon phases

Moon phase and illumination are calculated from the synodic month (the ~29.53-day cycle between new moons) measured from a known reference new moon. Minor differences of a few hours versus other sites are normal and expected from rounding in the reference epoch.

Calendars & holidays

Calendar math (weekdays, week numbers, business days) follows the ISO 8601 standard. Movable holidays such as Easter use the standard Gregorian algorithm. Public holiday lists are curated and may not reflect last-minute regional changes — always confirm with an official source for legal or payroll use.

Numerology

Life Path, Expression, Soul Urge, and related numbers use the Pythagorean numerology method: letters map to digits 1–9, and numbers are reduced by digit sum while preserving master numbers (11, 22, 33) and karmic debt numbers (13, 14, 16, 19). This is a traditional numerological convention, not a scientific measurement.

Astrology, tarot & personality tests

Horoscopes, birth charts, tarot spreads, and quiz-based personality tools (Enneagram, Big Five, attachment style, love language) are presented for entertainment, reflection, and self-exploration. They are not diagnostic instruments and should not replace professional advice.
